Jackson again

My sketches were steadily improving, peaking on August 12, when I drew the sketch below - the most accurate representation of my son, I think. Since then, my drawings have been very disappointing. I'm not sure what happened, except that I lost a week of drawing thanks to leaving my sketchbook in the diaper bag and constantly forgetting to put it next to the nursing chair, where I usually have the opportunity to draw.

I did this one today. It's the best in a while, which isn't saying much.

Jackson

This was done this weekend while we visited relatives in PA. My young cousins watched me draw Jack and ooh'd and aah'd over every stroke of my pencil. Children always appreciate art.

These sketches are definitely improving and actually look like my son. I don't know why I'm always surprised at the difference practice makes - in anything, but especially with my drawing.

Jack is 5 weeks old! Look at those cheeks.

The Sketches Continue

I am doing pretty good with drawing Jackson every day. When I nurse him, I sit in the livingroom easy chair. I keep a sketchbook nearby, along with a bottle of water, remote control, telephone, etc. etc. Once he's still, I pull it out and begin to draw. Here's the latest.

My two trouble areas are his nose and his ear. I think I caught the nose in this one, but felt a study of his ear was necessary, which is why there is a floating ear above his head. Sometimes I enjoy just focusing on one feature, rather than trying to put together his entire face.
