Best So Far

I did this drawing this morning, as Jack slept in my lap. I'm surprised at how much this actually looks like him, as it was completed after several frustrating false starts. I had finally given up on his face and decided to just draw his mouth. I worked out from there (I almost always start with an eye) and voila!

His mouth, chin & cheeks always fascinate me because they are so chubby. They are fun to draw.

Jackson in Moleskine

This was done in the Moleskine sketchbook I share with my grandfather. We take turns drawing in it. Since July 6, all my sketches have been of Jack. I think this is one of the better ones I've done lately.

I forget how much I enjoy drawing on that smooth Moleskine paper. Using my finger to smooth out the pencil strokes in the shadows is so nice. A very different drawing experience than on rougher paper of my regular sketchbook.

Sleeping Beauty

This is the best of the latest sketches of Jackson. It seems he's extra squirmy in his sleep lately. I get an eye or his nose down and then he moves.

I really don't want to work from photos, despite how much easier it would be in terms of his movement.

I love studying his little face up close as I draw him.
