The Playful Panther Put Puppets on its Paws

Here's the first of two P paintings I must do. I had actually nearly completed another version of this painting and suddenly realized I hated it. I had done preliminary sketches and thumbnail color studies and still, by the time it was almost done, I realized it was all wrong. I'm much happier with this painting, and though it meant losing precious time, I'm glad I started over.

Except for the blacks (Ivory, Blue and Lamp) these are Daniel Smith paints. A combo of Cadmium Red Deep and Quin Gold for the background, heavy on the QG. I love that orangey color.

Now onto the next P, as I am doing a gift for a little girl whose initials are SPP.

One Outstanding Octopus Owned Orange Overalls

I'm really happy with this one. This is where all those color mixing tests I did a while back have really paid off. When I'm not sure which color would work best, I flip through those pages and always find exactly what I want. I love how the orange overalls came out. They are a combination of New Gamboge (yellow) and Quin Sienna.

The Large Lobster wore a Lovely Lei

Here is the letter L - the 4th I've completed in my alphabet series. I'm skipping around based on people's requests for certain letters. This is Daniel Smith paints on Strathmore cold pressed paper. I have to say that the Strathmore (obviously) just does not compare to the Arches Aquarelle 140 lb cold pressed I used for A, B, C and so I have gone back to Arches permanently. It's a totally different painting experience.
